"Night Fishing with Cormorants" is a very loose and abstract meditation, inspired in part by the 17th Century Japanese screen painting by Kano Tanyu, "Night Fishing with Cormorants", and by the very stark and beautiful novel of Akira Yoshimura, "Shipwrecks". I am not telling a naturalistic story in this piece, but rather I have tried to make a work that will hold in equal reverence the spirit of the bird, the fish, and the fisherman.
"Refraction" - Chinese classical gardens exist at the crossing of a thousand years of landscaping, architecture, poetry and painting. The dramatized and idealized artificial terrain of the gardens have influenced Chinese artists for centuries to create architypal landscapes images, which in turn have inspired garden design. The gardens are trancendental spaces created for meditation and tranquility. In “Refraction" chaos animators Pink Twins distort the views of gardens with a crystal-like caleidoscopic tunnel, adding a psychedelic layer to ancient harmonic panoramas.
“THREE.studies” es una obra audiovisual para el navegador. Las señales de audio y video coinciden en un espacio digital diseñado para contenerla. Los elementos del espacio interactúan con los flujos que desembocan y proporcionan retroalimentación al intérprete musical. El espacio se mezcla con la interpretación, lo cual da como resultado un espacio en el navegador que sugiere caminos y que se transforma a sí misma cada vez que se ejecuta. Cello eléctrico: Iracema de Andrade
“Oneiria” - Distorted memories from an imaginative zone known as “Oneiria”. In our high-tech world, unpredictable behaviour from technology is often perceived as negative. These glitches however - ‘the ghost in the machine’ - can be a starting point to expand the possibilities of image production in the digital age. Oneiria uses datamoshing, a technique in which digital video images are deliberately made unstable, and found footage in different formats (digital HD, VHS, Super 8, …) is literally used as paint, smearing images to create painterly, abstract, dreamlike landscapes.
“Un sueño, una noche más”, es una pieza audiovisual dotada de diferentes capaz sonoras creadas a partir de sintetizadores, efectos y distorsión. Esta propuesta sonora es una interpretación íntima del día a día, en donde los visuales son generados con elementos reactivos, brindando una perspectiva de la escucha de máquina predefinida por el artista, colocando a los dispositivos tecnológicos como interpretes.
“Nimitta” is a realtime animation work that mainfests according to a predetermined set of relationships between sonic and computational processes, but which unfolds differently each time it is performed. This video is one such performance. A set of rules, and an emergent "sign", struggling it seems to come into its own, to become a form, simultaneously pulling, stretching, expanding, in-forming. Multichannel sound is delivered live to geometric operators creating the visual output and captured in real time.
“Kabir Kouba”, the river of a thousand bends.
“Agua” es una colección de micro relatos musicales en forma de ambientes sonoros, basados en live coding y su fluir depurado en el tiempo y espacio. En palabras de Celeste, agua es: “Fluir (Aunque te estés muriendo de miedo)” Tomas una mano, síncopas, 80 Hertz. Tomas la otra mano... el cielo mismo, ojos color miel.
“VR 01 - Selection From” is a four minute excerpt from the video installation work 'VR 01' by Morgan Beringer Studio, 2020. It is part of an ongoing series of video pieces, each featuring progressively more abstract imagery of people ecstatically donning VR headsets while engaging in a wide range of activities from fishing to surgery. A surprising structural connection between these images and a type of 'spiritual transcendence' is revealed. It is intended to promote discussion/inquiry into the values and larger social implications of virtual reality as a whole.
Biografías
Betsy Kopmar is a painter, photographer, and director of experimental animations who lives and works in Berkeley, California. Her award-winning abstract animations have shown in film festivals around the world where they were recognized for their unique combination of expressive graphics and arresting sound. In awarding a prize to Kopmar's film "Night Fishing with Cormorants", the judges of Prix Simona Gesmundo Animation Festival described it as "A beautiful and fascinating work containing inspirations coming from a distant literary and pictorial past. By using them, with no naturalistic but absolutely modern strokes, the author manages to reach a perfect communion with the natural world". Honored by Adobe as a Master Teacher for her contributions to digital education, she has taught motion graphics and 3D design and animation at Bay Area colleges. An early adopter of vj tools for live performance graphics, she continues to explore the synergistic and improvisational work-flow these tools provide to video and animation artists.

Morgan Beringer is an American born video artist based in London, UK since 2003. He began his art practice in 1998 via the mediums of drawing and printmaking before gaining a degree in the expanded field of painting at Wimbledon College of Art in 2003. Here Morgan found his concern with the unexplored spaces between still and moving images. The expressive possibilities therein inspired an ongoing opus of 64 abstract films that continue to expand his distinct perspective upon the medium. The majority of Morgan’s work is created through temporally stretching apart the spaces between still images to reveal surprising juxtapositions.Morgan’s abstract videos delight in teasing the point at which one form becomes another, playing with the mind’s inherent desire to draw solid lines and form concrete meanings.Today Morgan maintains his art practice alongside commercial post-production projects. His work has featured in galleries, performances, and film festivals across several countries and is available for sale, screening, installation, and commission.
