Certain ‘lo-fi’ approaches to sound-art offer not only an aesthetic response to current paradigms but may also represent ways in which practitioners may work against the forward march and tacit valorization of high-technology and extractive capitalist economics. ‘Map ≠ Territory’ seeks to examine these questions and broaden the discourse surrounding technological mediation in an attempt to build an ‘audio-culture’ which is more self-critical and inclusive.
Sam Risser is a sound-artist and musician living and working in Montréal Québec where he is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Electroacoustic Studies at Concordia University. Utilizing a variety of techniques, his work attempts to investigate and problematize the intersection of power and technology in artistic production and consumption.
